Analysis of Rock Videos 1 Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun Goes Down

Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun Goes Down

The music video starts with a  medium shot of a girl in an estate, you can tell that it is early in the morning and she may not have a place to go. The next mid long shot is of cars driving past her and looking at her, this along with the lyrics help to show the audience what position the girl is in. The symbolism of a worms view shot of the staires show that she is on a winding spiral. This with her walking down the stairs could symbolise how much of a spiral she is on and how she is going down hill.

The next shot is a longshot of a girl and man sitting on the steps, to the audience it looks asif he is trying to comfort her, but the lyrics "but what a scummy man, give him half a chance ill bet he'll rob you if he can" make it clear that this man is not going to help her but infact make her life worse than what it is at the moment. The mid shot of the man looking strait to the camera with the lyrics "you can see it in his eyes" reinforces to the audience amout "what a scummy" man he is. Shots then carry on of them seperatly and together, this shows that although they may be together she is not happy and still may be working at her trade.

Through out the video she is in the same outfit, this hows that her maybe being with this man is not helping her, there are also many shots of her on the street at night on her own, she doesnt look happy throughout any of the video. The shot of him beating up one of her customers, he is also making it harder for her to live, and harder to get any money. The end shot of him kissing her shows that, he may just want her to himself and does not in fact care for her, but wants her to be for him and him only. The music video like many others show a story, I think this is done to fit in with the story of the lyrics many of the rock videos I have watched have done this.
