Final Cd Cover and Advertisement.

Final Draft Of Music Video

Evaluation 4) How did you use media technologies in the constructionand research, planning and evaluation stage?

During the research stage of my project I used Youtube as my main technology, this enabled me to watch music videos, and analyse them using pause and skipping scenes. Although this has ment that I only used a simple technology throught this stage it proved effective when conducting research. I also used Google Docs, this created a simple survey for my audience to fill out in order to create an accurate reading of what the audience look for in a indie rock music video.

During the Planning stage I got to try out different technologies like animatics to get an idea of what my music video would really look like after drawing out story boards. I also found that praticing my skills on photoshop ment that when it came to making my advertisement and CD cover that it was alot easier to construct.

Blogger was also helpful in this stage as this ment all of my work was documented therefor showing a step by step development of all of my work, this ment that it was easier to show the examiner every stage of processing. Keeping in touch with my group was also very important as it ment that we were able to book rooms, email teachers and use social networking sites like facebook and twitter inorder to remember dates and times of filming. I also found that emails was a great help as this ment that we were able to book out equipment and keep in touch.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

From the start of the project  with the audience research that i carried out, I learnt that it was important to follow what our audience wanted in order to create a successful final product.

Analysis of results from questionnaire carried out on Google Docs.

Out of the 22 people that answered my groups questionaire 74% of them were females. This could mean that the type of audience that indie-rock music attracts is dominated by women.

18 out of the 22 people that were asked we 17-19, this gives my group a good idea of the kind of audience that we are marketing to.

As majority of the people who answered the questionaire said indie-rock was the favourite genre, this has ment that it the rest of the answers to the questions below will have greater meaning and will be a greater help in following the conventions my group will need in order to be successful.

The answers in this questio have been a great help in order of understanding the most successful way of advertising. With air-play being the greatest influence out of these options, this has ment that first air-play will be important, however youtube will also work well as it is the second highest way of hearing new music. This will help my group when the advertisement stages begin.

This questions shows greatly the influence iTunes ect. has when purchasing music, again these results have ment that when the music does go on sale, what is the biggest influence on the marketing for purchasing music.

The results to this question will greatly help when dealing with the editing and shots used in the video. The conclusions I draw from this question is that their may be need for cross cutting within the video, this would mean cross cutting of a story, and where it is purley the band, however this can be seen as a convention of many indie rock videos.

Here is the final draft of my music video, it complys with all of the audience feedback that was given and therefor I believe that it will make a successful Indie Rock Music video.

How effective is the combination of your main product and your ancillary task?

Digi pack Mock up 2

After doing a photoshoot in different locations me and my group narrowed down to the photos that we felt worked well and felt would be most successful in our digipack. We chose the photos that we felt showed off the whole band well and also showed different sides to the band so that the audience felt that they were able to connect to them more. We decided to show the band in a professional setting and mood and a friendly mood. This makes the band seem more approachable and easyer to connect with for the audience. However although this is still a mock up and we are still working on the final draft one.

Shooting Schedule

Below is the schedule for when we will be shooting the footage for our music video. It is important to have this information as having a shooting schedule will insure that everyone that is needed for the shoot will be available and free at the time. We have also included what we need, who will be needed, time, location and important notes for the time.

Photo shoot plan

The photo shoot plan is for when we will be shooting for the album cover and advertisement part of the project. This includes the props that will be needed, the date, equipment and the crew that is needed for this date. again this is a important schedule to stick to as this states where me and my group have to be and what time.

track permission letter

Below is an image showing how me and my group have gotten in contact with the band via email to request permission to use their track in our work. This is important as this will ensure that there are no problems with copyright or legal issues, failure to do this will result in legal issues and will result in us being in able to use the track needed.

talent release forms

Below is a scanned document of our talent release forms. These are very important as they ensure that permission from the actor/performer who will want to be in our video also ensuring that no laws are broken.

location permission letters

Below are images of how we got in touch with either the council, regarding  the park locations in our music video. And also the personal email of the owner of the loft we intend to use.

Permission for use of Nonsuch Park:

Permission for use of Morden Park:

Permission for use of loft:

We have to use a variety of methods to get in contact to gain permission to use the locations we desired. We had to use both email and application forms to get in contact. It is crucial to get permission for using any location as this means that no laws are being broken and the council are aware of what days, time and locations we will be using when filming.

List of props, costumes, make up and equipment.

Props: We are going to use a different range of props, this will keep the props relevant to the idea and theme of our video, as we are going for a vintage feel, using vintage locations and props is essential for the video to work. Below I have put some examples of the props that will be present in our music video. The props that have been put onto the GIF are the ones that will be present during the concept part of the video and the band playing part, examples for this would be the instruments and the amps, however for the concept part it would be the draws and the old trunk.

locations

Our first location we will be using is Nonsuch park, this is a local park that is ideal for the different running parts of our music video. The different locations and views that will be used in Nonsuch park will be ideal for the different shots, this will also make our music video much more interesting and exciting for the viewer to watch. This will maintain the different locations that are usefull and more interesting that also go against the conventions being used.

Finally we are using different objects such as, wardrobes, cupboards and vintage trunks to give the sense of searching throughout our video music. Although this is not a location as such, it describes the different settings that will be used and the different situations that our charaters will find themselves in. One of these locations will be a loft setting, this will be a different location to the ones that are typically used, and will be great for different and interesting shots. As the loft is full of different objecs, this will also work with the idea of searching, and the hatching alowing differnt and naturel light in will alow to create narrative and give a insight to how the characters are feeling.

StoryBoard

Me and my group have created a story board in order to give us an idea of the different shot types, angles and descriptions of the shot. By using a unique idea of searching instead of our original idea of romance and breakup we have been able to create more inative shots. It also gives us a good idea of the amount of concept and performance would look good during the video as this makes a good planning sheet in order to make the filming process smoother, shorter and easier.

Here is a video of my groups parts in producing the story board:

Here is a gif animation, showing the completed storyboards:

Teacher Assessment.

Image Annotation.

Although we want our group to look and fit the conventions of the song and style we feel the band needs to take. Because we want the band to fit the conventions of other indie-rock bands, me and my group have done indepth research into the style of costumes of other bands in order to dress our band correctly.

Two door cinema club:

Bombay Bicycle Club:

The Killers:

Foo Fighters:

I feel that after researching these four artists it has given me an idea into what style of clothing that the main singer and band ( if one is going to be used.) They will be dressed smart/casual, however we also found that the bands also often dress how stereotypically there audience dress.

This often makes the artists more approachable, and promotes that indie-rock music is not about the clothes all of the time, unlike in pop videos where it is commun to promote clothing labels. Indie rock videos are more about the performance and voice.

After looking at these particular bands these are the clothes I have chosen to for my character to wear beacuse of the conventions I have looked at:

Costume for performance:

Costume for narrative Male:

Female Narrative:

Lyrics Annotation.

Here is my annotations of the lyrics to the song that my group will be doing.

Song Details.

The song that my group will be doing has been decided, and we have chosen Someday - Two Door Cinema Club. This song fits the genre of indie rock; it is sung by a British band and does not currently have a video. After researching many songs we felt that this was the most suitable in order to follow the conventions of an indie music video. We felt that we could create a loose narrative to this video and also create enough cross cutting. This song will follow the conventions that my group found successful whilst conducting audience research.

Above is an image of my mindmap of inital ideas for my music video, this gives ideas  of costumes and locations.
